Temperate Rainforest Status:
The Pacific Temperate Rainforest is one of the most diverse and richest rainforests in the world. However, the size of the redwood trees that dominate here, and the beauty of these trees, have made it a target for loggers. For over a century, over 90% of the native forests worldwide have been destroyed from intensive commercial logging. The conservation of the temperate Rainforests is critical. In the Pacific Temperate Rainforest, endangered species such as red wolves, elk, and bison have been reduced to almost 10% or their original populations because of environmental loss and over hunting. Conservationists are encouraging others to participate in order to prevent in the future a loss in this region. People need to gain more awareness to the threats of these forests that include overdevelopment, climate change, and short lasting forest practices.

Preservation Groups:
- Sierra Club BC, Going Wild!- Teaches about the ecosystem dynamics and calls for a cultural appreciation.
- Forest Canopy Lab at the Evergreen State College- The students involved take part in an interdependent study project that includes a field trip to study the aesthetic and biological parts of temperate rainforests.
- Olympic National Park Service- Ranger-led programs allow people to develop a deep understanding and appreciate the nature of these forests.
